Thea Pharma Launches Glaucoma Drug Iyuzeh in the U.S.

September 27, 2023

Thea Pharma announced the launch and availability of Iyuzeh (latanoprost ophthalmic solution) 0.005% in the United States market. Iyuzeh, having obtained FDA approval in December 2022, stands as the first preservative-free latanoprost product for individuals in the US diagnosed with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and ocular hypertension (OHT).

“The US launch of Iyuzeh is a major step forward for Théa Group, the eye care community, and patients,” Jean-Frédéric Chibret, President of Théa, said in a company news release. “Glaucoma is a chronic eye disease that affects the everyday lives of more than 60 million people globally. With Iyuzeh now available, eye care providers can effectively treat their POAG and OHT patients with preservative-free latanoprost. I would like to thank everyone involved in achieving this milestone – including the providers and patients who participated in the clinical studies, our teams, and each of our partners – for helping us deliver on our commitment to enable patients access to medication without preservatives.”

In randomized, controlled clinical trials involving patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) or ocular hypertension (OHT) who had an average baseline intraocular pressure (IOP) ranging from 19 to 24 mmHg, Iyuzeh demonstrated a reduction in IOP ranging from 3 to 8 mmHg, while Xalatan resulted in a reduction of 4 to 8 mmHg.

Preservative-free latanoprost, introduced more than a decade ago, is accessible in 46 nations, primarily under the brand name Monoprost, with approximately 1.5 million patients receiving monthly treatment.

Iyuzeh is available for as little as $60 for a 30-day supply through programs offered by PhilRx and the Thea Savings Card.

● PhilRx is a service that offers a convenient way to prescribe IYUZEH, with the medication being shipped free of charge and directly to the patient's doorstep. This service provides online and phone support for both eye care professionals and their patients.

● The Thea Savings Card is available to those who are commercially insured and not enrolled in a state or federally funded program. Patients can check their eligibility and activate this savings card at activatethecard.com/theasavingscard.
