Haag-Streit Introduces METIS Ophthalmic Microscope System

September 03, 2024

Haag-Streit has introduced the METIS Ophthalmic Microscope System, aimed at enhancing precision and efficiency in ophthalmic surgeries. The METIS system integrates advanced optics with a coaxial red reflex, ensuring clear visualization during procedures, even under low light conditions. It features motorized tilt and ergonomic design, allowing surgeons to control focus, zoom, and other functions via hand or foot switches. The system also supports 4K video for detailed imaging and offers a modular design for potential upgrades like 3D heads-up displays.

Optical Performance and Ergonomics

The METIS system incorporates Haag-Streit’s optics, providing reliable color reproduction, high light transmission, and a large depth of field. The coaxial red reflex feature offers stable and bright visualization, which is particularly beneficial during delicate procedures such as capsulorhexis and capsular polishing. Additionally, the system’s ergonomic design, including motorized tilt and an innovative binocular adjustment, enhances surgeon comfort by promoting proper posture and reducing strain during long surgeries.

Efficient Workflow and Sustainability

Designed with efficiency in mind, METIS allows surgeons to control various functions through intuitive hand and foot switches, streamlining operations in the operating room. The system includes integrated 4K video technology, enabling real-time collaboration and documentation, with a 27-inch touchscreen monitor positioned for optimal workflow. METIS also features sustainable LED illumination, reducing heat and energy consumption compared to traditional lighting options.

Additional Features and Modular Design

METIS comes with an assistant microscope to facilitate collaborative learning, particularly in academic settings. The system also supports wide-angle fundus visualization with the optional EIBOS 2 device, which provides a clear, wide view for retinal procedures. The modular design of METIS allows for future upgrades, such as 3D heads-up displays, making it a flexible investment for evolving surgical needs.

Debut at ESCRS 2024

Haag-Streit will showcase the METIS Ophthalmic Microscope System at the 42nd Congress of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) in Barcelona. Attendees at booth 7.C66 can experience the system firsthand.
