Retina Consultants of America Announces Addition of Colorado Retina Associates

October 21, 2021

Retina Consultants of America (RCA), a physician management services company, has added Colorado Retina Associates (CRA) to its national consortium, expanding its footprint into a new territory. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"CRA is at the forefront of clinical trials and is the only community-based IRD Consortium Clinical Research site among 40 sites globally, most of which are within academic institutions. Additionally, CRA is the only private practice participating in ADJUST, a pediatric uveitis phase 3 clinical trial," according to Retina Consultants of America.

“The physicians of Colorado Retina are excited to join our colleagues in Retina Consultants of America,” said Dr. Alan Kimura, President of Colorado Retina.

“This thoughtful integration of retina practices will raise the bar of quality even higher by disseminating best practices across the retina ecosystem. Colorado Retina and RCA are fully aligned in providing the highest quality patient-centric care. We share a mindset of continuous improvement that seeks to improve patient care in clinic, surgery, and clinical trials.”

Founded in 2006, CRA began as a merger of three independent practices, and has since expanded to include 13 board-certified and fellowship-trained ophthalmologists in the Denver-Boulder metro area.

The clinic employs 180 people at eight sites and serves more than 71,000 patients each year.

CRA has taken part in over 115 clinical trials, and is actively enrolled in 30 more for AMD, hereditary retinal disease, retinal vein occlusion, and diabetic retinopathy and uveitis.

CRA just launched its new, state-of-the-art flagship office in Lakewood, Colorado, which contains a combination of clinical exam rooms and research facilities to help patients receive the best possible care.

RCA now has offices in New York, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Missouri, Kansas, Texas, Kentucky, Minnesota, and California, and the addition of CRA will help the company achieve its mission of offering the greatest quality retinal care to patients across the country.

RCA is a strategic partner for leading retina specialists looking for a strategic partner with the capital resources and expertise to invest in their practice infrastructure and position them for continued growth in their markets.

It was founded by Webster Equity Partners and is based in Southlake, Texas. The retinal care alliance (RCA) is unusual in that it is the first horizontal collaboration in the eye care sector that is completely focused on retinal care.
