Iveric Bio, an Astellas Company, has joined forces with Eric Stonestreet, a two-time Emmy® award-winning actor, to raise awareness about geographic atrophy (GA), a type of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) leading to irreversible vision loss.
Eric and his mother, Jamey, are sharing their personal experience with GA and AMD, aiming to inspire others to learn about the disease and take proactive steps in maintaining their eye health. The campaign's objective is to increase awareness of GA's potential signs, rapid progression, and the importance of consulting eye care professionals for disease monitoring.
Eric has witnessed the profound impact of GA on his family. His maternal grandmother, Helen, grappled with significant vision loss due to AMD and later developed GA. Despite her challenges, she maintained her spirit and humor, serving as a tremendous inspiration to her family. Eric's mother, Jamey, also received an AMD diagnosis and is resolutely committed to preserving her vision to maintain her independence.
"After watching how quickly my grandma Helen's vision loss progressed, my family and I are motivated to prioritize our eye health. Knowing that GA runs in the family is why I am proactive about seeing my doctor for regular eye exams, and my mom regularly visits her eye doctor to stay on top of her AMD,” said Eric Stonestreet.
Chris Simms, Senior Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, stated: "GA is a devastating disease that can lead to irreversible blindness, and early diagnosis is crucial to ensure GA is identified early. We are thrilled to be working with Eric and Jamey to help people learn about GA and AMD as well as the importance of prioritizing their eye health."
