Zeiss Vision Care Acquires Stake in Ocumeda to Advance Tele-Ophthalmology Innovation

October 02, 2025

Zeiss Vision Care has announced the acquisition of a 10% stake in Ocumeda AG, a digital tele-ophthalmology platform, for €10 million ($11.75 million) from Fielmann Group, with an option to increase its shareholding to 25%. The agreement places Ocumeda’s valuation at €100 million ($117.5 million). This strategic investment supports Zeiss’s goal of enhancing access to primary eye care through digital innovation.

Ocumeda AG offers a digital platform designed to bridge the gap between opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists, enabling more efficient and collaborative patient care. As the demand for accessible and timely primary eye care grows globally, Ocumeda’s platform helps streamline communication and diagnostics across eye care professionals.

This technology-driven solution addresses the rising need for scalable, remote eye care services, particularly in regions facing shortages of qualified specialists.

Zeiss Vision Care Invests in Tele-Ophthalmology to Support Eye Health Access

The acquisition aligns with Zeiss Vision Care’s broader strategy to expand its role in digital vision care and strengthen solutions that promote early intervention and seamless collaboration across the eye care spectrum.

Sven Hermann, President and CEO of Zeiss Consumer Markets, emphasized the shared mission:

“Our investment in Ocumeda is part of our commitment to protect and improve the vision and visual health of consumers. We want to strengthen accessible eye and vision care – in Ocumeda we have found an excellent partner for this mission. A partner who shares our high standards in innovation and quality.”

Partnership Supports Vision 2035 Digital Health Goals

The Fielmann Group, which originally backed Ocumeda’s development, views this new partnership as a major step toward scaling the platform across Europe and beyond. The collaboration supports Fielmann’s Vision 2035 strategy focused on expanding digital health capabilities in vision and hearing care.

Marc Fielmann, CEO of Fielmann Group, commented:

“We are excited to welcome Zeiss Vision Care as a strategic investor in Ocumeda. Together, we look forward to expanding Europe’s leading tele-ophthalmology platform as an open resource for patients, opticians, optometrists, and ophthalmologists. This partnership marks an important milestone in our Vision 2035 strategy to help everyone hear and see the beauty in the world.”
