LVPEI and CORE Form Strategic Alliance to Advance Global Eye Care and Vision Science

April 29, 2024

In a significant development in the field of eye care and vision science, the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) and the Centre for Ocular Research & Education (CORE) at the University of Waterloo have established a strategic partnership. This alliance, formalized through a memorandum of understanding, is set to revolutionize global eye care delivery and therapeutic development.

Dr. Amit Mathur, strategic global partnerships and digital innovation advisor to LVPEI and a University of Waterloo alumnus, spearheaded the initiative. The partnership aims to utilize the unique strengths of both world-leading institutions to foster an exchange of knowledge, resources, and technology.

The collaboration focuses on several key areas:

1. Joint Research Initiatives: Collaborative research projects will target cutting-edge solutions in vision science and eye health.

2. Therapeutic Development: This aspect of the partnership seeks to accelerate the creation of new interventions for some of the most challenging eye conditions affecting populations worldwide.

3. Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Building: The agreement facilitates cross-institutional sharing through joint seminars, workshops, and exchange programs for researchers and clinicians.

4. Innovation in Eye Care: Exploring novel approaches to eye care delivery mechanisms, the partnership will harness the latest technology and research to enhance patient outcomes.

The memorandum of understanding was signed by both institutions in late April. Currently, LVPEI and CORE are working together to establish joint operating models to implement the partnership effectively.
