The World Council of Optometry (WCO) and CooperVision, one of the world’s myopia category leaders, have jointly developed an online source that provides several approaches and assets for eye care experts to incorporate a standard of care for myopia management into practice. The web site is now live and can be reached at https://myopia.worldcouncilofoptometry.info/
The online source not only provides information about myopia management, but also a forum for optometrists to share their knowledge and experiences within the global eye care community.
The site mainly consists of three main pillars: mitigation, measurement and management on the back of the evidence-based standard of eye care unanimously adopted by the WCO Board of Directors. Each section provides a listing of studies that can be found under the “Myopia Moment” section, which is now live in seven languages including English, Spanish, French, Mandarin, Cantonese, Russian and Arabic.
“This online resource provides eye care practitioners from anywhere in the world access to the information they need to implement a standard of care to treat or manage a patient’s myopia progression,” said Paul Folkesson, president, World Council of Optometry.
The WCO and CooperVision announced their global partnership back in March this year to raise awareness of myopia progression, and encourage eye care professionals to embrace a standard of care for myopia management within their practices.
“The World Council of Optometry’s mission is to facilitate the development of optometry around the world and support optometrists in promoting eye health and vision care as a human right through advocacy, education policy development and humanitarian outreach,” remarked Folkesson.
