April 30, 2024

In a significant leadership shift, Topcon Healthcare announced Ali Tafreshi as its new President and CEO.  In his new role, Mr. Tafreshi will maintain the company’s focus on improving healthcare access, cost, and quality by delivering AI-powered solutions using the vendor-inclusive, secure, and connected platform – Harmony.

"I’m honored to take on this role and look forward to expanding the application of oculomics; using the eye to determine eye and systemic health status. We call this strategy, 'Healthcare from the Eye,'" said Mr. Tafreshi.

Ali Tafreshi has been a significant figure in the eye care industry for over 20 years, where he has driven innovation and product development. “With longstanding collaborations with leading institutions throughout the world, Ali provides a bridge between scientific rigor and clinical practice,” commented Robert N. Weinreb, MD, Chair and Distinguished Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Diego. His journey in the field began in academia and transitioned to the industry with Heidelberg Engineering. He held various significant positions there, including Global Head/VP of Product Management and Clinical Affairs. Before his current appointment, he served as Topcon Healthcare’s Chief Officer of Strategy, Innovation, and Clinical Development, leading the strategic push towards digital health solutions using Harmony.

"Ali’s clinical and industry expertise, knowledge of our business, and commitment to our values make him the ideal choice for this role," said Hideyuki Takizawa, Topcon Corporation’s Senior Executive Officer and General Manager of the Eye Care Business division. "We are confident in his ongoing work to advance Healthcare from the Eye and optimize the value of our innovative robotic devices and intelligent software solutions."

“Topcon Healthcare, Inc. is uniquely positioned and willing to take the long-term view needed to expand healthcare access while decreasing overall cost via earlier diagnosis and management of systemic and eye-related disease,” added Fumio Ohue, Senior Vice President of Topcon Corporation.
