Rayner Shifts into Eco-Friendly Packaging to Reduce Carbon Footprint

March 26, 2024

Rayner announced a significant update to its packaging, marking a pivotal step towards achieving its environmental objectives while also enhancing the customer experience. The company has introduced several innovative changes designed to reduce its carbon footprint and improve the practicality of its product packaging.

The new packaging strategy includes several key updates:

● The replacement of traditional paper Instructions for Use (IFU) documents with a QR code, facilitating the download of electronic IFUs. This change is projected to save 35 tonnes of paper annually.

● A transition from plastic tray and lid containers to pouches, achieving an 83% reduction in single-use plastic packaging waste.

● A 30% decrease in energy consumption attributed to enhancements in the manufacturing process.

● Carton modifications aimed at increasing tamper-proofing and ensuring greater robustness during transport.

These initiatives are in line with Rayner's commitment to its Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) goals for 2024, especially following its commendable placement in the top 17% of companies in the EcoVadis ratings for 2023.

Tim Clover, CEO of Rayner, emphasized the company's dedication to environmental stewardship, stating, "Environmental responsibility is important at Rayner. With easier-to-use cartons, vastly reduced plastic packaging waste, the removal of paper IFU leaflets and lower energy manufacturing processes, we’re making strides to develop not only a better experience for our customers, but a reduced environmental impact too. It’s important to recognise the effect our actions have on the environment and take action where possible to mitigate the impact of cataract surgery."
