Mount Sinai’s NYEE Launches Center for Refractive Solutions in New York

June 18, 2025

The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) has opened its Center for Refractive Solutions, a state-of-the-art facility focused on delivering advanced refractive correction options. This is the first center of its kind in New York City and among the few specialized facilities in the United States offering an integrated approach to refractive care.

Integrated Center for Refractive Eye Care

Located at 310 East 14th Street in Manhattan, the Center for Refractive Solutions is designed to streamline patient care by providing a full suite of services under one roof. Offerings include:

       • Cataract and intraocular lens (IOL) surgery

       • Laser-assisted cataract procedures

       • Corneal refractive procedures, including LASIK and photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)

The center is intended for patients looking to reduce or eliminate their dependence on glasses and contact lenses.

Coordinated Patient Assessments

“We’re now able to offer our patients more complete and efficient access to premium services, including IOL implants, laser-assisted cataract surgery, and custom LASIK,” said Kira Manusis, MD, Director of the Center for Refractive Solutions and Co-director of Cataract Services at NYEE. “We’ve centralized all the necessary equipment and services to deliver an efficient and thorough evaluation for patients in just one day—no small advantage for individuals who lead busy lives.”

Advanced Diagnostic and Surgical Planning Technologies

The center features state-of-the-art corneal and ocular imaging tools capable of mapping multiple corneal layers and precisely measuring ocular dimensions. This enables highly personalized surgical planning based on each patient’s unique anatomy and lifestyle needs.

NYEE’s surgeons tailor cataract surgery options to individual factors such as:

       • Overall eye health

       • Daily visual demands

       • Desired visual outcomes

Each treatment plan incorporates the latest lens technologies to optimize vision and minimize the need for corrective eyewear.

Range of Minimally Invasive Refractive Procedures

In addition to cataract care, the center offers minimally invasive solutions for common refractive issues such as blurry vision and difficulty seeing at different distances. Available procedures include:

       • LASIK and wavefront LASIK

       • Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK)

       • EVO implantable collamer lenses

       • Refractive lens exchange

Executive Comments

“NYEE is delighted to offer a state-of-the-art center offering patients innovative solutions to address their complex refractive issues,” said James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, President of NYEE and Delafield-Rodgers Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “We have assembled together an experienced clinical team with the most leading-edge refractive technology.”
