Topcon Invests in Sanro Health to Drive Ophthalmic Data Integration and AI-Based Care

October 24, 2025

Sanro Health has announced a strategic investment from Topcon Healthcare, aimed at advancing ophthalmic data interoperability and the development of AI-powered care solutions. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Addressing Fragmentation in Ophthalmic Data

Sanro Health is focused on overcoming one of the most persistent challenges in eye care: fragmented clinical data. The company’s approach consolidates medical imaging and electronic health records (EHR) within a single interoperable framework. This unified system ensures the integrity of patient data while maintaining context, enabling more reliable biomarker discovery and real-world AI implementation.

Sanro Optimizer: Integrating Imaging and EHR Data for Clinical and Research Use

At the core of Sanro Health’s offering is the Sanro Optimizer, a platform that combines imaging data with EHRs to generate intelligent patient profiles and ranked cohorts. The system is designed to operate seamlessly within clinical workflows, allowing eyecare providers to identify eligible patients for clinical trials in real time. This integration enhances both the efficiency of trial recruitment and the personalization of patient care.

“Sanro Health’s deep understanding of ophthalmic data, and proven ability to deliver real-world clinical data and medical image interoperability make them an ideal partner,” said Ali Tafreshi, CEO & President of Topcon Healthcare, Inc. “By linking these data sets using agreed data standards, we can transform how patient care and research interconnect.”

According to both companies, the collaboration will also accelerate Sanro Health’s expansion into the U.S. market and support the advancement of its product roadmap.
