Barti Software Secures $12M Series A to Advance AI-Powered EHR Solutions in Eye Care

September 01, 2025

Barti Software has raised $12 million in Series A funding, led by Five Elms Capital, to support its growth strategy and product innovation. The funding will be used to expand the company’s go-to-market efforts, grow its team across core functions, and accelerate the development of new AI capabilities and workflow automation features as the company moves deeper into the ophthalmology and eye care space.

Platform Designed to Address Eye Care Practice Needs

Co-founded by optometrist Kelly Cai, OD, who also serves as Chief Operating Officer, Barti Software is positioned as a purpose-built solution for the specific needs of eye care practitioners. The company describes its offering as an “end-to-end operating system” that unifies clinical, operational, and financial workflows in a single platform.

“As an optometrist, I've seen how software can get in the way of patient care. We built Barti to change that experience and bring the focus back to patient care and the doctor–patient relationship,” said Cai.

AI-Driven Tools Designed for Eye Care Practices

Barti’s platform includes AI Scribe technology developed specifically for the eye care sector, along with native phone/VoIP systems and website management tools. These capabilities are designed to streamline practice operations and reduce administrative burden.

According to the company, Barti is the first and only company to receive investment from AOAExcel, the for-profit arm of the American Optometric Association (AOA), which supports optometry practices through exclusive member benefits.

Aiming to Automate Administrative Work in Practices

Barti CEO and co-founder Colton Calandrella highlighted the broader mission of the company to bring modern solutions to a healthcare segment still relying on outdated systems.

“Today, the eye care industry takes a massive leap forward. This is one of the last sectors of healthcare still burdened with legacy systems. Instead of waiting a decade for modern tools to trickle in, providers using Barti now have access to the latest developments in AI designed specifically for optometrists, opticians, and ophthalmologists.”

Calandrella also noted the company’s long-term vision to automate over 80% of routine administrative tasks, using tools like AI agents, so that providers can spend more time on patient care. He projected that by 2027, most practices will adopt voice-driven workflows that significantly reduce repetitive manual processes.
