Quantel Medical Introduces POCKET III: The Lightest Handheld Pachymeter

May 31, 2024

Quantel Medical, a division of Lumibird Medical, has unveiled its latest innovation with the launch of the POCKET III handheld pachymeter. This compact device, according to Quantel, sets a new standard as the lightest connected handheld pachymeter on the market, weighing just 60 grams.

Precise Measurement Range and Enhanced Hygiene

The POCKET III offers a precise and extended measurement range from 150 μm to 1200 μm, attributed to its 30 MHz probe. A dedicated holder ensures the probe tip can be safely soaked in disinfectant solution, enhancing hygiene practices in clinical settings.

Pachymetry's Significance in Ophthalmic Practice

François Checinski, Ultrasound Product Manager at Quantel Medical, emphasized the significance of pachymetry in ophthalmic practice, stating, "In addition to the importance of being able to calculate corneal thickness in pre-refractive surgery, pachymetry is essential to calculate and correlate with intraocular pressure. In fact, 80 million people suffer from glaucoma. As a practitioner, you need to know the exact thickness of the cornea to calculate the 'true' value of the IOP that depends on this measurement. That’s why it is important to be able to measure corneal thickness anywhere and at any time which can be done using the POCKET III."

The POCKET III has received both CE marking and FDA 510(k) approval, ensuring its compliance with European and US regulatory standards. Delegates attending the 16th EGS Congress in Dublin, scheduled for June 1-4, will have the exclusive opportunity to witness this groundbreaking product firsthand at the Lumibird Medical booth.

Quantel Medical's introduction of the POCKET III reflects its commitment to advancing ophthalmic technology, offering practitioners a portable and precise solution for corneal thickness measurement, vital in various clinical scenarios including pre-refractive surgery and glaucoma management.
