France-based Moria has acquired Italian-based company Alchimia SRL, a manufacturer of devices for ophthalmic surgery and human tissue banking. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed at the time of publishing.

Alchimia, a company founded in 1993, has 30 years of experience in the chemical, microbiological, and pharmacological fields for the posterior and anterior parts of the eye. It is supported by a network of more than 60 distributors across the world. Products include human tissue banking media, perfluorocarbons, colors, and silicone oils.

"This acquisition fits perfectly with Moria strategy and completes Moria existing ranges of products for vitreoretinal surgery and keratoplasty. The aim is to further expand existing positions on those market segments," Moria stated in a news release.

"We are delighted to welcome the Alchimia team within our group. This acquisition brings Moria a new capacity for meeting ever evolving surgeons’ needs, in rapidly expanding our product offering. This enables us to leverage the numerous commercial benefits resulting from this acquisition," said Bruno Chermette, Moria President and CEO.
