ESCRS Mission Zero Pledge: Hosting a Congress That Sends Zero Waste to Landfills
European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) has adopted a first-of-its-kind vision and commitment toward sustainability and net-zero carbon emission starting from the 40th Congress of the ESCRS from 16-20 September in Milan, Italy.
Through the “Mission Zero” pledge, the ESCRS envisions being a role model for social responsibility by hosting a congress with zero waste to landfills and zero net carbon emissions by 2023.
To host a congress that leaves zero waste in the environment, the ESCRS has taken solid steps and created a written pledge for participating companies to join in this noble sustainability act. More importantly, the organization has received four major sponsors from global biotechnology companies including Alcon, Zeiss, VSY Biotechnology, and Johnson & Johnson Vision.
Accordingly:

● Zeiss is the ESCRS 2022 Congress Waste Zero Partner
● VSY Biotechnology is the ESCRS 2022 Congress Sustainability Healthy Break Partner
● Johnson & Johnson Vision is the ESCRS 2022 Congress Sustainability Healthy Break Partner
In addition, the ESCRS will give a Sustainable Exhibitor Award, which recognizes an exceptional exhibitor or exhibitors, who have truly embraced environmentally responsible behavior and sustainable work practices both and outside the congress.
The winner(s) will be announced during the congress in Milan after the applications are evaluated by a panel comprising 3 experienced events and sustainability leaders. The deadline to apply is Thursday, 1 September 2022.
