Bausch + Lomb Launches Arise: An Intelligent Cloud-Based Orthokeratology Lens Fitting System

March 20, 2025

Bausch + Lomb has announced the U.S. launch of Arise, an advanced lens fitting system that leverages intelligent, cloud-based technology to enhance the orthokeratology lens design process. Designed to streamline myopia management, Arise offers precise, real-time lens fitting by integrating directly with corneal topographers, delivering accurate designs in a matter of seconds.

Revolutionizing Orthokeratology Lens Fitting

Traditional orthokeratology lens fitting can be complex and time-consuming, requiring extensive trial and error. Arise introduces a more efficient approach by automating key steps of the fitting process.

Yang Yang, President of Global Vision Care at Bausch + Lomb, highlighted the platform’s impact:

“Traditional orthokeratology lens fitting methods can be complex and time-consuming. The Arise platform’s streamlined fitting process will reduce chair time and increase efficiency for eye care professionals.”

How Arise Works: Intelligent and Efficient Lens Design

Arise utilizes advanced algorithms to interpret corneal topography images, eliminating the need for manual fitting sets. The system automatically:

       • Analyzes corneal topography and suggests lens designs

       • Evaluates lens centration and patient progress through an overnight outcome map library

       • Recommends adjustments based on overnight wear outcomes

The cloud-based platform ensures secure access to patient data and provides direct consultation support from Bausch + Lomb’s expert team, making it suitable for practitioners of all experience levels.

Brooke Messer, OD, FAAO, FSLS, of Vance Thompson Vision in West Fargo, North Dakota, emphasized the benefits of the system:

“Arise combines all aspects of the orthokeratology process—from topography capture to lens design and more—into one seamless, user-friendly technology. The ease and precision of Arise will be a welcome addition to my practice.”

FDA-Approved Orthokeratology Lens Design

Arise features the first orthokeratology lens design with toric peripheral curves approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for overnight myopia correction.

The Boston orthokeratology (oprifocon A) shaping lenses available with Arise are indicated for:

       • Temporary reduction of myopia up to -5.00 diopters

       • Patients with astigmatism up to 1.50 diopters

       • Non-diseased eyes as part of the Bausch + Lomb Vision Shaping Treatment (VST) process

Availability

Arise is now commercially available in the U.S., the UK, and Europe, offering a groundbreaking solution for orthokeratology lens fitters looking to improve efficiency and precision in myopia management.
