Japan’s Nidek., a global leader in the design, manufacture, and distribution of ophthalmic, optometric, and lens edging equipment, has announced the launch of the Retina Scan Duo 2, a combined OCT and fundus camera system.
The Retina Scan Duo 2 has new features enhancing screening and clinical efficiency aside from user-friendly features that were incorporated from the previous model.
A 12 x 9 mm wide area OCT picture can be acquired using the Retina Scan Duo 2. In a single shot, the retina map captures both the macula and the disc. On a single OCT image, a normative database analysis is performed for both the disc and the macula, allowing for more efficient diagnostic screening.
The Retina Scan Duo 2 includes a new image enhancement technique for denoising B-scan images.
This function was launched in December 2020 as B-scan Denoising Software for the NIDEK OCT series, which delivers high-definition images comparable to a multiple-image-averaging technique using deep learning of a large data set of images averaged from 120 images.
This function reduces picture acquisition time by creating a high-definition image from a single-frame image, ensuring enhanced patient comfort.
When image denoising is combined with the retina map, high-definition wide field area OCT images can be acquired in a single shot at speeds of 70,000 A-scans/s with regular OCT sensitivity.
“This next-generation device for combined retinal diagnosis incorporates practical features that contribute to optimizing clinical workflow,” says Motoki Ozawa, President and CEO of NIDEK CO., LTD.“The Retina Scan Duo 2 will be an essential clinical device used daily for retinal screening and diagnosis.”
